I set up my marketing consultancy business in June and the first thing I did was go to a local business networking meeting. I was surprised that in this digital age there were nearly 50 local businesses there! Everyone was friendly and encouraging and it was great to hear people sharing testimonials within the group.
I made some useful contacts here and went on to attend another local networking event with one of these contacts. The event was Connecting Biz in Basingstoke – a free event for businesses in the North Hampshire area. At the event I was introduced to Rebecca Newenham who runs Get Ahead VA – a team of Virtual Assistants. My contact from the original networking meeting had also met her through local networking events. Rebecca and I chatted at the meeting and she was interested to understand more about my skill set and what I could contribute to her business. She went on to become my first client and I am completing more and more PR work for her each month. Since then my business has gone from strength to strength with new clients being added every month.
Rebecca and I were actually introduced at the lunch before the networking meeting began so it just shows that you never know who you might meet, when, and how powerful networking can be. I will always be grateful to Rebecca for being my first client and giving me the confidence to continue to network and pick up more clients and grow my business. I would of course highly recommend the Connecting Biz meetings to any businesses in North Hampshire!
