Louise Spencer-Stevens, Product & Marketing Manager, Nuco International
As a mum, I’m getting used to the trials and tribulations of balancing work life with bringing up a little one, and now more than ever I’ve come to realise that it’s no mean feat. When I was first introduced to Networking Mummies, I was blown away by the amount of support that the organisation gives to families in business, and the opportunities that it makes available to them. Networking is vital in business and by helping mums and dads to connect, through free events, the organisation helps us (incredibly busy parents) to share experiences and generate new business.
I’m fortunate that the company I work for is passionate about small business; motivating and rewarding those who have given their all to drive their business forward. Nu: makes paper products that help people succeed. Our notebooks, which can be found on the shelves of supermarkets and high street stores across the country, provide a blank canvas for people to write down their plans and aspirations for their business. Our app, Nu: Notes, lets people take their handwritten notes and upload them to the cloud to share with colleagues and partners.
This is why we got involved with the Networking Mummies Awards and we are delighted to be sponsoring the Small Business of the Year Award. We understand the lengths that people go to in order to make their business succeed, and we’re excited to have a part in recognising that. The prize, a mentoring session with Networking Mummies’ co-directors Laura and Stacey, will give the winner an invaluable insight into running a successful business, and some key pointers for keeping on track.
With that, I thought I’d share our top tips for new businesses:
* Networking - it’s essential. Meet new people as often as you can, and make sure that you’re meeting people who can provide you with opportunities, advice and support.
* Strategy - make sure you set clear and manageable goals. Know exactly what can be achieved and prioritise them accordingly.
* Try new things - put yourself out there, you’d be surprised at how much you can achieve when you take yourself out of your comfort zone.
Best of luck to everyone that’s entered for an award, and we can’t wait to see everyone on 6th May.
