Hi All, my name is Sarah Brent, and I live in beautiful Stratford Upon Avon with my 12yr old son Jackson, and my wonderful supportive partner Simon. I make unique handmade jewellery which I mainly sell online via FB under the name of 'Jewellery By M.E'. I've been a member of the Evesham/Stratford group of Networking Mummies for almost a year now. I was over the moon to be awarded Business Mum Of The Month in April.
6yrs ago I was diagnosed with M.E, hence the name of my business. It was for me the worst thing that could've happened. Almost overnight I went from a very busy active lifestyle to needing to sleep after just a 10 minute walk. I had to give up work and was faced with sitting at home worrying about my condition day after day, I needed a distraction. So I decided to teach myself jewellery making, I picked up a few books and soon realised that I was actually pretty good. I did a couple of school craft fairs and was delighted with the reaction to my jewellery. In 2011 I thought I'd step it up a notch and got myself a stall at our local Friday market. I made so many friends, it was wonderful. Putting myself out there really boosted my confidence too. But once the cold weather hit in the December I had to give up my stall as unfortunately it severely affected my M.E. I still have M.E, I still have good days and bad days, but I feel I would be in a far darker place without my jewellery.
Last month a lady who owns an accessories shop in Market Drayton selling handbags and jewellery, happened to see me on a FB liking ladder and approached me about making jewellery exclusively to sell in her shop. It's all going very well, and I'm loving the fact that lots more people are now seeing and buying my items.
A friend of mine told me about Networking Mummies and we went along to our first coffee morning last year not knowing quite what to expect. It was a great morning & I made several new friends that day. Working from home alone isn't always easy, and you can soon become isolated. Networking Mummies gives you so much support, online and at coffee mornings, and makes you realise that you don't need to feel alone.
