Hi I'm Jan Dowthwaite-Clark, I have my own business as an independent distributor selling Nature's Sunshine health and nutritional supplements and I am mum to a 16 year old.
It's been a good while since I last managed to get to a Networking Mummies meeting so I couldn't wait to catch up with the Mums that I already knew as well as meeting some new faces. There was a large crowd of us but thanks to one of our Mums, Beth McKechnie, we were made very welcome in her Stratford cafe McKechnie's. Our branch leader Kerry Wallace welcomed us all and invited us to introduce ourselves and tell each other a little about what we do. It's great to hear about all sorts of businesses run by enterprising Mums who are juggling work and children. We have so many talented business women among our members - artists, jewellery makers, business and confidence coaches, marketeers, fitness and nutritional consultants, beauty therapists, as well as those specialising in children's goods and even vintage clothing.
After the introductions our business Mum of the Month, Sarah Brent of Jewellery by M.E, showed us some of her beautiful handmade jewellery. This was followed by an open discussion where members were able to chat and seek advice from each other. It's great working for yourself but there are times when you really appreciate feedback or support and with so much diverse experience between us there is bound to be somebody who can help if you are struggling or say well done when you've achieved something.
As always I came away from the meeting feeling really positive and glad to be part of such a great networking group. If you haven't yet been to a meeting of your local branch then I recommend that you get along to the next one. Meetings are fun, friendly and informal and little ones are always welcome.
